Latitude 40°N: annual optimum 40°, winter 55°, summer 25°, all facing due south (180°). A flat-roof commercial install would likely use 10–15° ballasted racks regardless, trading ~5–8% yield for wind-load simplicity.

Interpreting the result

Tilt matters less than people expect: within ±10° of optimum, annual yield changes only 1–3%. Orientation (azimuth) and shading matter far more. Steeper tilts shed snow and self-clean better with rain; flatter tilts integrate with roofs and reduce wind loading. Adjustable racks gain a few percent by tracking seasons.
